Variable Frequency Drives Slash Energy Use at Select Onion's Processing Plant

November 1, 2010, Boise Idaho - With the installation of Variable Frequency Drives on 36 industrial fans, Select Onion will enjoy about a 15% to 20% reduction in electricity use, which should provide thousands of dollars a month in savings. Incentives from Idaho Power and grants from the state of Oregon and the federal government helped defray equipment and installation costs, meaning Select Onion’s investment should pay for itself in a relatively short period of time. After that, the savings can go right to the bottom line, while helping reduce overall demand for electricity in the Idaho Power network. Read case study (PDF).

Enterprise Electric upgrading power grid in science laboratories of BSU's Nursing and Science building

May 5, 2010, Boise, Idaho – Enterprise Electric, a leading electrical contractor serving industrial, commercial and residential customers in western Idaho and eastern Oregon, has been selected by Kreizenbeck Constructors to upgrade the power grid in the BSU Nursing and Science building.

The science laboratories were falling short of the power necessary to conduct the latest research / experiments. When the project is completed, however, the labs will not only have the higher level of voltage / amperage required, they'll also enjoy a more reliable overall electrical infrastructure.

Because of a tight timeframe, Enterprise Electric will be upgrading the electrical facilities in the multi-story building while professors are teaching and classes are in session. Electricians will even work over the 4th of July holiday in order to meet the deadline. Further, Enterprise Electric is working closely with the mechanical contractor revamping the building's HVAC infrastructure to co-ordinate installation in order to minimize disruption and speed deployment.

"Working on the electrical system while classes and labs are underway is kind of like building an airplane while it's flying," notes Clint Tate, President of Enterprise Electric. "Fortunately, our crews have extensive experience in this kind of environment and are able to meet the tight time frame and not interfere with on-going educational activities."

Enterprise Electric helping Idaho schools conserve energy and save money on power consumption

April 30, 2010, Boise, Idaho – Enterprise Electric, a leading electrical contractor serving industrial, commercial and residential customers in western Idaho and eastern Oregon, is installing power monitors in 100 Idaho public schools for a program designed to reduce power consumption and save energy statewide.

The program is headed by NorthWrite, an industry leader in web-based energy monitoring and analysis, and its reseller partner, Smart Buildings, Inc. Enterprise Electric is installing NorthWrite's unique wireless monitoring hardware, which tracks energy consumption across a geographically diverse portfolio of buildings. These monitors feed data on energy usage to LCD displays set up in public areas of the schools. By publicly displaying real-time energy use / savings information, there will be increased awareness among students, faculty, and parents about energy savings opportunities. This will be used to promote a "friendly" competition among the schools in a district. The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) State Energy Program (SEP).

"We're proud to play an important role in helping Idaho schools become more energy efficient," says Clint Tate, President of Enterprise Electric. "Energy management is one of our company's four focus areas, so the NorthWrite project is a perfect fit for us. In fact, projects aimed at maximizing energy efficiency have been a strong growth segment for us, directly contributing to our expansion and success."

Enterprise Electric and Select Onion are a winning combination.

July 23, 2009, Ontario, Oregon - Enterprise Electric and Select Onion are a winning combination. Enterprise Electric recently completed work on Select Onion's new, state-of-the-art, onion processing facility in Ontario, Oregon. The 82,000 square foot facility is owned by Farrell Larsen and includes dry storage, an onion production line and a wired, spiral freezer, housed in an insulated shell. Larsen chose Enterprise Electric after working with project manager Doug Keith on a similar facility in 2005.

This project was built via the design/build process, where both the design and construction aspects of the electrical distribution system are contracted to one company, in this case, Enterprise Electric. On a design/build project such as this, the design and construction phases overlap, providing a streamlined process that minimizes conflict, cost and risk for the owner while improving both the end product and its delivery schedule.

The project was completed on time and within budget. After reviewing the final project, the Electrical Inspector told project foreman Pat Thomas, "You can come back to my county anytime."
